Surely you, reading this post, have attended events organized by your company more than once. <\/span>If they were well-organized, you probably enjoyed yourself, laughed with your colleagues, and talked about how much fun you had for days afterward.<\/span>
<\/p>\n

But then, what?<\/p>\n

Years ago, I organized an internal event at a company where I worked. It didn't have an extraordinary budget or an spectacular production, and only had a couple of weeks to plan it. However, even today, when someone reminisces about that period in the company's history, that event still comes up in the conversation. It is remembered as an example of how the good days were. <\/span>That made me reflect about something important; the majority of the events are designed around the logistics, but not with intention.<\/span><\/p>\n

We worry about the space, the catering, the agenda or the schedules. All that is important but it's rare that attendees remember that. In <\/span>The Art of Gathering<\/em>, Pryia Parker champions an idea I 100% agree on: every gathering needs a clear purpose. There must be a \"why\". What do we want to happen? What should be different for the attendees when it's over?<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking back, I think that one of the key points of that event was that we put attendees at the heart of every decision We didn't design the event with the activities in mind. We designed the activities with the people in mind.<\/span><\/p>\n

We created teams to foster new relationships among colleagues who barely interacted in their day-to-day work. We designed the activities to allow for relaxed and informal conversations, but with a clear objective and requiring teamwork. We even prepared personalized merchandise for each person. A seemingly small detail, but one that reinforced the sense of belonging and allowed them to take a piece of the experience home with them. None of it was essential for the event to take place. A venue, catering, and audiovisual equipment would have been enough. But it's one thing for an event to be successful, and quite another for it to leave a lasting impression. People might remember the place or some other minor detail, but what they will remember forever is how they felt.<\/p>\n

And that's where the details become important. Because once the intention is defined, every decision must contribute to reinforcing it. They are the tool that transforms a one-off experience into a lasting memory.<\/p>\n

In the end, the success of an event isn't measured by what happens on the day itself. It's measured by that message from a colleague the next day, or by the fact that it comes up in conversation weeks later, and above all, that people continue to remember it years later.<\/span><\/p>\n
